The Erongo Mountains of Namibia are renowned for their totally lustrous and beautiful Black Tourmaline, and this specimen doesn’t disappoint. If you’re a collector like me and are in love with combo-specimens, this is a specimen especially for you! The Black Tourmaline crystals are bedded so nicely on top of Feldspar crystals that have previously "capped" another mineral, assuming to either be Quartz or another larger Feldspar crystal.
It showcases shimmering growths of lustrous Black Tourmaline crystals interspersed with soft white Feldspar. The faces of the Black Tourmaline shine like a black mirror.
Some Geologic Info on the Area:
The Erongo Mountains is an imposing mountain range with its topography prominently standing out from the surrounding flatter terrain. Geologically, it is a well-preserved caldera-like volcano-plutonic structure of late Jurassic age. The mountainous area is commonly and simplistically referred to as the "Erongo granite". Although granite is indeed an occurring rock type, there are several other rock types found within the area as the mountains are the product of several episodic plutonic and volcanic events.
